A Good Report

This past week Cannon made the rounds with  his medical cadre, namely his pediatrician, heart surgeon, cardiologist, and developmentalist. Each one was very happy with how far he's come since surgery. He's healed nicely, put on another 40 ounces (I'm still cheering for every ounce!), has good blood pressures, showing strong social skills, and regained a lot of his muscle strength. We are very thankful...now if we can just get him to sleep through the night!  Here are a few photos from his good week.

Progress

Good news! We met with Cannon's cardiologist yesterday and he's very happy with Cannon's recovery so far. He took him off one of his meds and was pleased with his weight gain...12oz since surgery. He'll continue to monitor Cannon as he grows, but thinks that the surgery accomplished our goals.

They're Back

Cannon's smiles are returning! Every day he feels a little better. We're still playing it safe though; staying close to home and asking everyone that comes in contact with him to "sanitize."  Hopefully soon life will have a semblance of normalcy. In the meantime, we're enjoying every smile.

Home!

Great news! In the last 36 hours Cannon made incredible progress and did so well that they sent us home this morning!  He's now sleeping peacefully in his own swing, no tubes, wires and only otc meds for some remaining pain.  We are definitely amazed at this...they were predicting about 14 days...so we're home in half the time! God's really had a hand in his healing.

Healing

It's been 3 days since Cannon's surgery and he's fighting through. Cannon's heart surgeon, Dr. A, was able to patch the small hole in his atria and the large hole between his ventricles, as well as fix his Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA).  Cannon survived being on bypass and came through successfully. Dr. A is satisfied with his recovery so far and we are hopeful that Cannon will continue to do well.

They took his chest tubes out and took him off nitric oxide yesterday and added a feeding tube, good milestones. They were weaning him off sedation and his ventilator but when they tried turning the ventilator off today, he was unable to breathe on his own. So they're giving him another day to rest and heal.

His puffiness has gone down and he's starting to look more like himself. He opened his eyes for a little bit. The first time I've seen his eyes since Wednesday morning. I was finally able to kiss him today too! We are very grateful for how far he's come and so thankful for the many people that have been praying for him and for us. Thank you!
